Who Is Samantha Ronson?

I just read a post on ABC News about Samantha Ronson and Lindsey Lohan’s relationship. The article stated that Samantha Ronson wouldn’t be able to command the DJ fees that she does, had it not been for her much publicized relationship with Lindsay Lohan.
Quite frankly, that statement is ridiculous. Samantha Ronson was doing just fine for herself before Lindsay came along and she has a strong, magnetic personality that attracts fans and stars alike. She comes from a family of talented musicians and she certainly isn’t the ugly duckling of the bunch.

There are very few clips of Samantha actually spinning records, which she rightfully gave up her music career for (she was signed under Jay Z’s Rock-a-fella records). That was a big decision and it took guts, but she is a very talented DJ and she has an innate ability to engage and entertain a crowd. Her lackadaisical manner attests to her natural talent, it doesn’t detract from it. Samantha Ronson came to one of the most highly competitive areas of the country and established a name for herself.

Sheila Marikar (the reporter at ABC who wrote the article) is an employee of the system, a victim of circumstance, and no more powerful than your average blogger who can submit a post to the internet. If it weren’t on ABC’s site, nobody would’ve ever come across it or think twice about it (or her for that matter).

Her article reminded me of a behind the scenes footage video on Samantha Ronson’s myspace where she effortlessly blends Regina Spektor and well, I’m not sure because she deleted her myspace tonight before I could replay it. Hopefully all of the press, the Paparazzi and the jealous reporters had nothing to do with that. Maybe it was just a fluke? At any rate, I wish her the best and continued success, she does have natural talent and any club owner willing to drop a dime to listen to her spin is getting their money’s worth.
